Abstract

The Sagebrush War (1850s-1860s) was an armed conflict between the California county of Plumas and the now-defunct Nevada County of Roop over the jurisdiction of Honey Lake Valley and Susanville, California. Collection consists of a box with 4 folders, containing a copy of Charles Curry Aiken’s Master of Liberal Studies Thesis for the University of Oklahoma Graduate College: “Sagebrush War: The California-Nevada Boundary Dispute on the 120th Meridian”.

Copies of Washington Union Interview with Christopher Carson

Abstract

Christopher “Kit” Carson (1809 - 1868) was a well-known frontiersman, mountain man, wilderness guide, Indian agent, and U.S. Army officer. In May of 1846, Carson led an assault on a Klamath village on the shores of Klamath Lake. This became known as the Klamath Lake massacre. Collection contains a folder compiled by Laurence L. Shaw with photostat copies of letters and an interview with Kit Carson on the massacre of members of the Frémont Expedition in 1846.

Delisting of the Shortnose Sucker: Correspondence

Fish species Shortnose sucker and Lost River sucker, native to southern Oregon and northern California, are federally listed endangered species. Due to habitat recovery measures, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposes to remove both species from the Endangered Species Act. Collection contains documentation on the proposal.

F. A. Boutelle Letters, 1869-1873

Abstract Frazier Augustus Boutelle was an officer in the U.S. Army, fighting in the Civil War, the Indian Wars and working as a recruiter in World War I. Frazier Boutelle, 2nd Lieutenant, First U.S. Cavalry Regiment, fired the first shot of the Modoc War (1872-1873) during the Lost River Battle in November 1872. Voorhees (misspelled on the cover).
